PEDESTRIAN CORE

The Pedestrian Core project is part of the UBC Public Realm Plan, a 15 year improvement plan to update a network of outdoor public spaces.

The pedestrian experience will be significantly improved by replacing existing road beds with high-quality pedestrian promenades that are flush with adjacent lawn areas. The walkways will form the framework for a classic campus landscape of broad lawns and historic shade trees.

The Main Mall/University Boulevard Pedestrian Zone will be a pedestrian and cyclist only zone. Vehicle access will be restricted to emergency vehicles only for the protection of pedestrians and cyclists and UBC property.

Additional surrounding routes, designated a Service Zone, will be restricted to emergency, essential service, electric service vehicles and disability access.
