Parking & Access Control Services
UBC Parking Services is an ancillary business of the University of British Columbia and the largest university parking operation in Canada. The core purpose of Parking Services is to:
- Balance supply and demand of parking on campus by providing parking facilities and services for all users including students, faculty, staff, and visitors;
- Ensure parking facilities, services and equipment are functional, accessible and easy to use;
- Ensure long-term financial viability and sustainability for the business, including the development and maintenance of facilities and physical assets.
Parking Services' goals and strategies support the University's TREK 2000 vision. Accordingly, we are proud to be recognized as leaders in both public and private sectors for introducing automation and technology to the parking industry.
Parking Services supports university activities and events by providing parking facilities and developing business partnerships with the university community. Major community contributions include funding provided to the UBC Transportation Planning Program, Campus Security, Shuttle Bus Services, the University Centre, and Student Scholarships and Convocation.
Parking Services provides parking options to the UBC community and its visitors in support of the University's goals. Parking facilities will be updated and services shall be enhanced to provide the community with improved access to campus parking.
Market Environment
Parking & Access Control Services' customers fall into four major segments, each of which require needs.
- Permit Parking - A total of 13,000 permits will be sold in 2003/04, primarily to faculty, staff, and students.
Faculty/Staff permits allow the holder to park in either a parkade or in any of the numerous surface Faculty/Staff lots located throughout the campus.
Student permits allow the holder to park in a designated parkade or surface lot.
Special permits are sold for individual reserved parking spaces.
Special Needs permits are available for customers who require
specially designated spaces, based on specific locations. This
category includes disabled, delivery and loading zone users.
- Economy Lots - A total of 3,000 surface parking spaces are available in
several lots located at the perimeter of the main campus area. These lots are used extensively by students and faculty/staff members who do not hold parking permits.
- Casual Parkade/Meters - Predominantly for visitors to UBC who require short-term parking on campus.
